Technical Rescue
West Lake Fire Department covers a territory which provides many unique aspects to firefighting and rescue. It covers Erie International Airport, Railroad tracks, Lake Erie, Presque Isle, cliffs, and the Bay. Due to all of this territory, WLFD is dedicated to being efficient in all areas of rescue including Ropes & High Angle Rescue, Water/Ice Rescue, Confined Space Rescue, and Trench Rescue.
Ice Rescue
Due to the large amount of water that WLFD covers, including Lake Erie and Presque Isle Bay, the department is dedicated to training that will protect life during both winter and summer months. Recently, WLFD has started an ice rescue training program that provides this protection during the winter.

Ropes & High Angle Rescue
Due to the cliffs that are present in WLFD's territory, the department emphasizes the importance of ropes and high angle rescue.

Dive Team
The Millcreek Water Rescue Team is made up of members of the West Lake Fire Department along with members of other Millcreek fire departments. Although the team is sponsored by WLFD, any member of a Millcreek Township Fire Department is eligible to join. To join the team, a prospective dive must complete a 30 hour class, receive all certifications that are required by the Water Rescue Team and perform several practice dives. Trench and Confined Space Rescue
WLFD has committed to an extensive training program in trench and confined space rescue to protect Millcreek township and surrounding areas. West Lake houses it's own trailer with specialized equipment dedicated solely to these forms of rescue.
