Junior Firefighters
The Junior Firefighter program was created several years ago for the purpose of recruiting future Firefighters, as well as giving the youth of the community the opportunity to learn many new skills in a variety of fields. Training is held on Wednesday evenings right along with the Senior Firefighters, as long as the training does not violate PA Child Labor Laws or the PA Junior Emergency Compliance Manual.
To become eligible for the Junior Firefighter Division, a prospective member must be between the ages of 16 - 17, complete an application in full, have PA working papers, have a meeting with the Advisor with the prospective member and his/her parents and become aware of the duties of a Junior Firefighter. Once this has all been completed, your application will be reviewed by WLFD and if accepted, the prospective member will be welcomed into the Junior Firefighter Division. Also note, the Junior Firefighter Division is open to both males and females. Currently, the WLFD Junior Firefighter Division has 10 members who are very active in the operations of WLFD.
Junior Firefighters are permitted to respond on calls with certain limitations. A Junior Firefighter with WLFD is easy to identify. They are issued bright yellow helmets.
